Introductions:

MOSFET, or metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor, is a type of transistor that uses a metal gate to control the flow of current. MOSFET are classified into PMOS (P-channel) and NMOS (N-channel) based on the channel type. MOSFET can be further classified into four types based on the channel and material: enhancement-mode PMOS, enhancement-mode NMOS, depletion-mode PMOS, and depletion-mode NMOS. Among them, the enhancement-mode MOSFET has zero drain current when the gate-source voltage is zero, while the depletion-mode MOSFET has non-zero drain current when the gate-source voltage is zero. These characteristics make different types of MOSFET have different advantages and applicability in different application scenarios.

Challenges:

MOSFET have voltage limitations, which refer to the maximum voltage they can withstand under normal operating conditions. Generally, MOSFET have relatively low voltage ratings, typically below several hundred volts, and are not suitable for very high voltage applications. This is because the structure and working principle of MOSFET determine their voltage ratings. There is an insulating layer between the gate and source of the MOSFET, and when the voltage between the gate and source exceeds a certain level, the insulating layer will break down, causing the MOSFET to fail. Therefore, other types of transistors or devices with higher ratings need to be selected to replace MOSFET in high voltage applications.

Solutions:

In modern electronic devices, low voltage applications are common. In many cases, the SL2302S from Slkor is an ideal choice, this small SOT-23 N-channel MOSFET has a drain-source voltage of 20V and a continuous drain current of 2.6A, a power rating of 900mW. Its on-resistance is 85mΩ @ 4.5V, and its turn on threshold voltage is 1.5V @ 250μA. The high continuous drain current and low on-resistance of the SL2302S provides high efficiency and performance in low voltage applications.
