Japanese chipmaker Rapidus has announced the official launch of test production for 2nm wafers, with plans to achieve full-scale mass production by 2027.

At its IIM-1 facility in Japan, Rapidus has commenced prototype fabrication of test wafers utilizing 2nm gate-all-around (GAA) transistor technology. The prototyping process for this advanced node is progressing steadily.

Early test wafers produced at the IIM-1 site have met expected electrical characteristics. Rapidus is currently measuring multiple parameters of the test circuits. Construction of the IIM-1 facility began in September 2023 and remains on schedule, with over 200 equipment installations completed as of June 2025.
