【Daily Highlight】Slkor BV-FA05UCA Ultra-Low-Capacitance ESD Diode: “Zero-Distortion” Protection for 5 V High-Speed Digital Interfaces

release time:2025-07-16Author source:SlkorBrowse:1089

With USB 3.2, HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt™ 4/5 differential pairs routinely exceeding 10 Gbps, any ESD device whose parasitic capacitance creeps above 0.5 pF can be the straw that breaks signal-integrity’s back. Slkor’s new unidirectional ultra-low-capacitance ESD diode, BV-FA05UCA, delivers truly “zero-distortion” protection for 5 V high-speed links by combining 0.35 pF typical junction capacitance, 11 V low clamping voltage, 5 V reverse working voltage (VRWM) and 6 V minimum breakdown voltage (VBR min)—all while drawing only 0.1 µA typical leakage current, extending battery life in mobile devices.

The device’s core mission is to shunt the energy of nanosecond transients (ESD, CDE, EFT) to ground before they reach sensitive I/O pins, acting as a high-speed “safety valve” between the system and a hostile outside world. Traditional TVS diodes often trade capacitance for protection level, closing eye diagrams and worsening jitter. By leveraging a patented Slkor process, BV-FA05UCA balances ultra-low capacitance with low clamping, making it the ideal gatekeeper for smartphones, tablets, notebooks, AR/VR wearables and automotive camera modules.

Superior Protection Window

VRWM = 5 V

VBR min = 6 V

This window guarantees 5 V signal lines are never falsely pulled low yet remain fully protected under ESD strikes, matching the electrical specs of USB 3.2, HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt™ 4/5 and MIPI C-PHY/D-PHY.

Ultra-Low Clamping Voltage

Typical clamping voltage (VC) = 11 V—well below the 5 V I/O margin of protected ICs, minimizing transient stress.

0.35 pF Ultra-Low Junction Capacitance

Typical CJ = 0.35 pF (@ VR = 0 V, f = 1 MHz)

60 % lower than mainstream solutions; insertion loss < –0.2 dB and return loss < –20 dB at 10 GHz, preserving fast edge integrity and wide-open eye diagrams.

0.1 µA Ultra-Low Leakage Current

Typical IR = 0.1 µA (@ VR = 5 V, 25 °C)

Maximum 0.5 µA (datasheet) and <1 µA at 85 °C, securing “always-on” endurance for smartphones, TWS earbuds and wearables.

Miniature DFN1006 Package

1.0 mm × 0.6 mm × 0.37 mm—75 % smaller footprint than SOT-23. The 0.37 mm profile fits directly beneath a Type-C receptacle tongue. A center-exposed pad provides a low-impedance ground path, cutting loop inductance and boosting ESD discharge efficiency. Ni/Pd/Au finish enables Pb-free reflow; supplied on 7-inch reels for high-speed SMT lines.

Broad Application Footprint

• Mobile: USB-C ports, headphone jacks, SIM trays, side keys, MIPI camera lines

• Computing: Ultra-thin notebook Thunderbolt™ 4, HDMI 2.1, high-speed SSD slots

• Automotive: Camera SerDes links, IVI USB hubs, antenna-tuner GPIOs

• Industrial & Medical: High-speed DAQ cards, industrial cameras, portable ultrasound probe interfaces

• AR/VR & Wearables: AR glass Micro-OLED links, smart-watch combo data/charging interfaces

Design Tips & Technical Support

Place BV-FA05UCA ≤ 2 mm from the connector entry; route differential pairs symmetrically and maintain impedance continuity. Provide a solid ground plane window directly beneath the TVS ground pad—avoid long shared ground loops. Slkor offers evaluation boards (EVB-FA05UCA), 2-/4-port S-parameters, IBIS-AMI, SPICE and Saber models compatible with Keysight ADS, Cadence Sigrity and Ansys HFSS for channel-level eye, COM and BER simulations. FAE support responds within 24 h, with on-site testing, ESD lab reservations and joint debugging services.

With 0.35 pF capacitance, 11 V clamping, a precise 5 V / 6 V protection window and 0.1 µA leakage, Slkor BV-FA05UCA redefines the “zero-distortion” ESD-protection benchmark for 5 V high-speed digital interfaces, delivering a robust shield for the next generation of thinner, faster and more reliable electronics.
